Relationship between Culture and Nature: A Buddhist perspective & Feast offering culture: A local innovation from Chokyi Gyatsho Institute

Date : April 20, 2022

This session examines the profound connection between culture and nature through a Buddhist lens and explores an innovative cultural practice originating from the Chokyi Gyatsho Institute. The first part discusses how Buddhist teachings in Bhutan emphasize the interconnectedness of all living beings and the natural world. It highlights the belief that nature is sacred and that protecting the environment is integral to maintaining spiritual harmony. The Buddhist perspective views nature as a reflection of inner peace and balance, with practices such as meditation and reverence for the land playing a central role in Bhutanese culture. The second part focuses on the feast offering culture, a unique local innovation from the Chokyi Gyatsho Institute. This practice blends tradition with creativity, fostering community engagement and spiritual offering through food. It explores how this custom has been adapted over time and its role in strengthening communal ties, spiritual devotion, and cultural identity. Together, these discussions illustrate the deep cultural respect for nature and community that shapes Bhutanese life.
