This session explores the evolving perceptions of climate change and the adaptive management strategies being implemented along the Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers in Bhutan. The Mo Chu and Pho Chu are critical waterways that support the livelihoods of many communities, and climate change has increasingly impacted the region, leading to altered water flow, flooding risks, and changing agricultural patterns. The first part of the session addresses how local communities perceive climate change, including the challenges they face in understanding and responding to these shifts. The second part examines the innovative management strategies being developed to cope with these challenges, such as water conservation, flood mitigation measures, and community-based approaches to environmental resilience. The session highlights Bhutan’s unique approach to climate action, emphasizing sustainable development, traditional knowledge, and modern strategies in maintaining the balance between nature and human needs.
